The difficulties encountered by tillage farmers in getting winter crops in the ground last autumn have been well documented but this opens the door to include spring beans into the farm crop mix. The recently published Teagasc eProfit monitor report for 2018 has shown that only fodder beet is delivering a higher margin for tillage farmers than winter wheat and barley so not achieving the planned area of winter cereals last autumn will have financial implications for farmers in 2020.
