Whenever Patricia Kearney told people she was an epidemiologist, they often mistook her expertise for a speciality in skin conditions. “Before Covid, people would often mix it up with dermatology,” explains the UCC professor of epidemiology. “It was a silent discipline, a Cinderella discipline. But not anymore.”
